This programme is designed to prepare you for an apprenticeship in the Automotive and Engineering industry. Upon successful completion you will receive the Tai Poutini Polytechnic Certificate in Automotive and Engineering Trades including the National Certificate in Motor Industry (Entry Skills) (level 2) and the National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering (level 2).

National Certificate in Motor Industry (Tyre Servicing)
This programme is designed for people in the tyre servicing motor
industry and is a means of recognising skills and knowledge that
people have achieved.
Core Elements
Modules include:
Tyre technology, design, construction, wear patterns, inflation and loading, standards,fitting, balancing, repairing and run flat systems.
Customer Care: grooming and hygiene, greeting customers, Air Trading Act and Consumers Guarantees Act.
Safety: trips, falls, lifting, fires, explosions, fumes, hazards, safe jacking and clothing PPE.
Mechanical and Tools: brakes, suspension, steering and use of tyre tools and small tools.
Office: procedures, security, banking and office systems.
Career Opportunities
Graduates may further their careers by moving into tyre management, commercial transportation, mining or the automotive sector.

Graduates of this programme will have a wide range of technical skills and a broad knowledge base to make analytical interpretations and informed decisions for the repair and maintenance of steam driven vehicles. They will be able to prepare and bring to steam a boiler and operate and manoeuvre a steam driven rail or steam driven road vehicle.
This is a 40 credit qualification consisting of four compulsory unit standards that may be delivered as part time block courses. The qualification recognises competencies in the operation of steampowered vehicles and the knowledge of how to maintain them, and will provide graduates with employment opportunities at historical societies.
