Foundation

Foundation (Phoenix Centre)

This programme is run out of the newly renovated Phoenix Centre. This offers students a whanau based environment and training opportunities that are unique which allows them to select and move between various study options.

Students develop and regularly review individual learning plans that address their learning needs, career goals and training objectives. This programme is designed to help you prepare for tertiary level study.

Graduates will have the employment skills to apply for entry level positions.


Further Study Paths

Graduates will have the skills and confidence to go onto further training at Tai Poutini Polytechnic or other tertiary institutions.


Entry Requirements

  • Open entry to students who are not yet able to study at Level Two.
  • Applicants for whom English is a second language must meet IELTS (or equivalent) Level 5.5.

Special Entry may be granted where evidence exists that the applicant can successfully complete the programme. Please contact the Polytechnic for details.

Pathways to Employment (Training Opportunities Programme)

This programme offers training options from foundation skills to higher level generic and industry skills. Students develop an individual training plan that identifies their career goals, learning needs and specific training objectives, and work towards achieving these through participation in one or more training modules, as appropriate.

  • Computing & information technology
  • Business administration
  • Employment skills
  • Hospitality skills
  • Work based training

Certificates available include:

  • National Certificate in Computing Level 2 & 3
  • National Certificate in Business Admin & Computing Level 2 & 3
  • National Certificate in Education Achievement (NCEA) Level 1 & 2
  • National Certificate in Employment Skills
  • Certificates of Achievement in Hospitality
