Certificate in Basic Horticulture

This 41 credit programme will provide students with a basic knowledge of production horticulture and best workplace practice. It includes a mix of classroom and practical work and covers aspects of the growing season and a visit to a commercial nursery.
Graduates will be able to carry out routine tasks to assist in the day to day operation of a horticultural business. They will have a basic range of knowledge and skills, and will be able to complete tasks and processes satisfactorily under supervision.
Entry Requirements
- Applicants for whom English is a second language must meet IELTS (or equivalent) Level of 5.5.
- It is preferable that the candidates are physically fit to enable them to successfully complete the tasks required on the course.
Special Entry may be granted where evidence exists that the applicant can successfully complete the programme. Please see the Polytechnic for details.
Note: Learners without NCEA are encouraged to apply.
